New pictures of a third party iPhone case have appeared which appear to show an accessory that is designed for a much more rounded iPhone than the existing form factor of the iPhone 5. The pictures of the case were published by the Asian MGM Corporation (via Macotakara) and show a case that is slightly thicker than one designed for the iPhone 5, suggesting that a new iPhone could have a thicker form factor. In addition, the design of the case clearly shows much more rounded edges.

Rumor: New iPhone 5S Parts Appear

New images of what is claimed to be the internal logic board for the iPhone 5S have appeared, showing slight modifications to the one found in the iPhone 5. According to Macotakara, Japanese company Moumantai has printed photos of the logic board, which unsurprisingly looks a lot like the one that is found in the current iPhone 5. There are, however, a couple of small changes suggesting that it isn’t identical. The board doesn’t reveal any new information about the new device as it doesn’t even contain the final processor, however, there are some small tweaks suggesting modifications to the internals.

Rumor: iPhone To Get Bigger

A new report from Reuters is suggesting that Apple is looking to introduce new iPhone models with significantly larger screens later next year. According to the report, Apple has been testing a number of larger displays of between 4.7 inches and 5.7 inches diagonally, which is bigger than the 4 inch screen found in the iPhone 5, and the 3.5 inch screen found in prior models. The new report is careful to note that while the new screen sizes are being investigated, there is no guarantee that it will actually launch.

Dubious Rumor: An iPad ‘Maxi’ And Double Resolution iPhone 5S
A new pair of rather questionable rumors have appeared today suggesting some major changes to the Apple product line-up in the next year or so. The first concerns a new iPad ‘Maxi’ which is being report by Korean site ETNews as launching in early 2014 with a 12.9 inch screen size, compared to the 9.7 inch screen of the current generation Retina Display iPad. The new device is apparently set to compete with a range of ultrabooks and, aside from amusing name, would be released early next year.
In contrast, Chinese site WeiPhone is suggesting that the next iteration of the iPhone, the iPhone 5S, which is expected to be released later this year, will actually have around double the amount of pixels on the screen. The device is being reported to have around 1.5 million pixels compared to the nearly 730,000 currently found in the iPhone 5. This report is even more dodgy than the first, as any increase in screen resolution would likely involve a fourfold increase in pixel number rather than two fold as the increase would have to be in both horizontal and vertical dimensions. For comparison, the iPhone 3GS had a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels whereas the iPhone 4 had a resolution of 640 x 960, or four times the number of pixels.

Apple Recruiting For Handwriting And Gesture Recognition

Apple is recruiting for an engineer who will be able to help develop novel gesture and handwriting recognition technologies for their future products. An advertisement appeared today on the Apple recruitment website for a Multitouch Sensor Algorithms Engineer who has expertise in developing algorithms for sensor pattern, gesture or handwriting recognition systems. It’s unclear if the engineer would work on a specific handwriting recognition application or if the algorithms would be hard-baked into the OS to add to the user experience.

Rumor: Low Cost iPhone To Be Better Than Expected
A new report is today suggesting that the long rumored low cost iPhone that Apple is expected to release later this year will actually be of a better standard than many were expecting. The report comes from AllThingsD who have been speaking to Mark Moskowitz and Gokul Hariharan, analysts from J.P. Morgan. The analysts suggest that the low cost iPhone will launch at a price point of $350-400 and would be a ‘mid-range’ device, rather than a lower priced, less functional product.

Apple Releases iOS 6.1.4 For iPhone 5 Devices
Apple has today released a minor update for iOS 6 that is apparently restricted only for the iPhone 5. The company issued an update labelled as iOS 6.1.4 that apparently contains one new feature in the form of an updated audio profile for the speakerphone on the iPhone 5. There is no further detail of what exactly has been fixed or altered in the update, but improvements to the speakerphone, for example during a call, are not immediately apparent.

Rumor: iOS 7 To Have Massive New Design

Apple has apparently been working on some extremely significant changes for iOS 7, and the next generation operating system will have some massive design alterations that will make it stand apart from its predecessors. The rumor comes from 9to5Mac who, after talking with sources familiar with the new OS, have suggested that iOS 7 will feature a ‘flat’ user interface which gets rid of the skeumorphic designs of the previous iOS versions. This will mean a massive change for users who are very familiar with the existing iOS user interface.
The report notes that there will be new icons for Apple’s native iOS apps, such as the Phone app, the iMessage app and the Contacts app. Interestingly, the software has also been tested in he wild, using devices with polarizing filters to prevent items on the screen being visible to people other than the user of the device, although its unclear if this has been off Apple HQ.

Rumor: iPhone 5S Not Launching In June/July Due To Additional Development

The next generation iPhone 5S will apparently be destined for a launch in September or October of this year, rather than the June launch date which had previously been postulated. According to a new report from Reuters, Apple is spending more time developing the coating for the new fingerprint sensor situated under the Home button on the new device. As such, the development timetable has been pushed back slightly, but there is no detail offered on when the device will now launch
