Rumor: Apple Working On A New iWatch

iPod nano Watch
Apple is apparently working, in a collaborative effort with Intel, to produce an intelligent, Bluetooth 4.0-based iWatch, with speculation pointing towards a release in the first half of 2013. The new device will reportedly have a 1.5 inch display and will have some functionality powered by Siri. The report comes from iPhone.tgbus (via 163.com) who say that the device will have an OLED screen and Bluetooth 4.0.

While some aspects of this story are perhaps a little less believable than others, there may be some truth behind the details. Ever since the new elongated iPod nano design was launched, many people have speculated on how Apple could release a device with substantial functionality that could be easily strapped to the wrist. The previous generation of iPod nano went some way towards this but with Apple revising the design to a more retro look, there is now a gap for the company to release something more substantial than a music player and fitness accessory.

Will.i.am Wants Your iPhone To Look Like This

Black Eyed Peas artist, Will.i.am has unveiled a new accessory for the iPhone called i.am+. The accessory is an iPhone case that docks with your device and offers an upgraded image sensor for the iPhone camera, upgrading it to 14 megapixels over the 8 that is currently found in the latest iPhone (via The Telegraph). In addition to this, the i.am+ also features interchangeable lenses, as well as a built in flash and slide out keyboard.

It’s pretty hard to gauge the first reaction to this accessory. On the one hand my brain says it’s one of the ugliest pieces of bling that you could possibly want to strap to an iPhone (or indeed any device). On the other hand, it brings some pretty cool functionality to the iPhone camera, with interchangeable lenses and increased image quality.

Awesome New Jawbone ‘UP’ Wristband Hits The Market

A brand new version of the highly anticipated ‘UP’ wristband by the company Jawbone has just been released and it looks to be just as awesome as the original UP wristband, before it was pulled from the market. UP is a flexible, durable wristband that you wear all day and tracks your activities. When paired with the app that is available for iOS device, the UP wristband tracks your sleep, your activity level, your food and drink (if you want), your ideal wake up time and even reminds you when you’ve been sitting on your ass too long.

The band itself is essentially a new design as the original version of UP that was released last year but was then discovered to be pretty faulty and unreliable so was removed from sale. Customers that had purchased the original version were even offered a full money back promise from Jawbone. But now the 2.0 edition of the UP wristband is available and it looks to be awesome.

Third Party Lightning Connector Cables Won’t Be Available For Two Months

With the launch of the new iPhone 5 and the new Lightning connector, many people users are scrabbling for extra Lightning cables and convertors to supplement the sole cable that is supplied with the iPhone 5. There are official Lightning cables and Lightning adapters available from Apple, but for those who don’t want to pay Apple prices, Amazon seems to be an alternative to try and secure a third party cable or adapter for a much lower price. That may, however, be a little easier said than done.

According to a report from Gizmodo, it’s going to be a couple of months before third party suppliers are able to analyze, design, build and ship cheaper alternatives to the Lightning cables that are currently only supplied by Apple. According to the report, it’s going to be at least 2 months before cheaper unofficial cables become available, primarily because the technology that Apple has implemented inside the Lightning cables is not fully understood.

Prototype Apple eMate Laptop Hits eBay

A prototype of the Apple eMate 300 personal digital assistant has popped up on eBay with a list price of approximately $8,500. The listing shows a clear case eMate 300 device running the Newton operating system and is apparently in good working order (even including the original eMate stylus). Notably, the device is marked prototype and is essentially identifiable by the fact that it has a clear case, whereas the eMate models that actually made it to public release sported a dark green casing.

The eMate was original introduced in 1997 and was offered for sale at $800. However, it was discontinued less than a year later alongside the rest of the Apple Newton product line in early 1998. As shown in the listing description, it has a 480 x 320 pixel resolution and grayscale display as well as a full size keyboard and stylus. The design is reminiscent, or perhaps predictive, of the later iBook design.

Apple Looking To Revamp Earphones In Unibody Aluminum?

Apple could be looking to overhaul the earphones that are supplied with devices like the iPhone and iPod, perhaps using design influences from some of their latest OS X and iOS devices. In a patent application, uncovered by AppleInsider, the company has apparently been looking into a unibody design for their earphones to increase the aesthetic appeal.

The seamless construction of the new earphones could be accomplished by a technique called ultrasonic bonding which could potentially bond together a number of different aluminum components making them appear seamless and as a single component. If this were applied to earphones then it would allow Apple to construct the earphones with the complicated audio components required for sound production inside an apparently seamless shell.

Rumored Apple Television To Be Big

Ahead of the launch of the iPad 3, and perhaps even an upgraded Apple TV, the rumored Apple television continues to play on people’s minds, not least that of Gene Munster, the Piper Jaffray analyst who is keeping his hopes pinned upon Apple releasing a television set. The pundit, in an interview with Bloomberg Radio (via 9to5Mac), has said that the Apple television will be ‘the biggest thing in consumer electronics since the smartphone‘.

Those are some impressive words, continuing to add to the hype of the rumored, and unannounced, television set. Munster also noted his previous statements that this new Apple device will be completely different from any televisions currently on the market, which seems to make sense given that Apple will be releasing the television into what is essentially the most saturated consumer electronics market.
