Rumor: iPad Mini Event To Be Held On Tuesday, October 23

The media launch event for the highly anticipated iPad mini will apparently be taking place on Tuesday, October 23 2012 and will likely be held on Apple’s campus in an auditorium (via AllThingsD). Previous rumors stemming from major Apple investors had suggested that company would be invitations for a media event due to be held on October 17. It was expected that the invitations would be issued on October 10, but when that date came and went without the appearance of invitations, all eyes turned to the following week. While Apple tends to hold media events on Wednesdays, this event is reportedly taking place on a Tuesday.

No word has yet emerged on when pre-orders for the device would start to take place or indeed when it would be eventually released to the public. The location of the event is still a mystery but it’s worth noting that the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, a popular Apple media event location, also has a free schedule on that day. Given the source of the information, however, this is the most reliable report thus far regarding the date of the event.

The rumor stems from the oft-critical-of-rumors Philip Elmer-DeWitt who writes for Apple 2.0, and is saying that a source who is a major Apple investor has heard about the issue of the invitations taking place next month.

Should this rumor turn out to be true, then it could be expected that Apple would unveil the iPad mini in the middle of the following week, which would place the announcement date for the new device at Wednesday October 17. Rumor: Apple Will Hold Two Separate Events For iPhone 5 And iPad Mini

Recent all-but-confirmed-by-Apple rumors have suggested that Apple will be holding a media event on September 12, 2012 to launch the highly anticipated new iPhone 5. The device itself is then expected to go on sale several days later on September 21. What has also been stated about this event (by iMore) is that Apple will also be introducing an iPad mini, a smaller iPad with a 7.85 inch screen and thinner profile than the existing iPad. It was suggested that Apple would show off the new device, but that it wouldn’t go on sale for some weeks.

Now, some well sourced information has come to light which has cast a doubt over the reliability of the original reports suggesting a September 12 introduction of the iPad mini. According to John Gruber of Daring Fireball, and tantalizingly encouraged by Jim Dalrymple of The Loop, Apple will likely be holding two events, spread weeks apart to introduce their new devices. The first event, the September 12 iPhone 5 event will go ahead, but the iPad mini will not see a launch event until the first or second week of October.

The report then goes on to say that September 21 will be the day that the next generation iPhone 5 will be made available to the public in Apple retail store and that a second launch wave will then take place in the first week of October (likely October 5) when multiple international markets will begin getting the device.
