The Apple quarterly earnings call will take place later today as both amateur and professional financial analysts eagerly await the earnings figures. According to Fortune, the professional analysts expect Apple to announce revenue of approximately $57.35 billion, whereas the amateurs are feeling bullish and looking at nearer $59 billion. As reflected in a previous report, Apple is expected to have sold a number of iPads, a few Macs, and several iPhones.

iTunes Store Experiencing Temporary Issues

A small number of customers are experiencing a small temporary glitch when trying to make purchases through the iTunes Store, according to reports on the Apple online Support Forums. According to the Forums, the problem is quite widespread and indicates that the problem only affects a proportion of customers who have iTunes accounts. The customers affected with the issue encounter an error that says ‘FATAL:: Unable to process your request. Please try again’.

Apple Highlights Black Friday Sale

Apple has today posted an image which teases its upcoming annual Black Friday sales event, set to take place on Friday, November 29. The event, held each year to showcase Apple’s discounted mainstream products, tends to offer substantial discounts on a number of Apple devices. Most of the discounts are in the 5-10% range and can be found both on the online Apple Store and in physical Apple retail stores.

There are no details as yet on what offers will be made available, but in the past, Apple has offered significant discounts on several product lines, including the iPad, the iPod and MacBook devices, as well as accessories such as AirPort routers together with mice and keyboards. The teaser was first made available on the Australian Apple Store but will likely be rolled out to all stores soon.

Rumor: New iWatch Device Coming In 1.3-Inch And 1.7-Inch Options

A new report is suggesting that Apple is preparing to release an iWatch with two different display sizes for consumers. According to the Korea Herald (via MacRumors), an analyst with NPD DisplaySearch, David Hsieh, is claiming that the company will be releasing iWatch devices with both a 1.7-inch display and a smaller 1.3-inch display. The resolutions of both displays are said to be 320 x 320 pixels meaning that the pixel density of the larger iWatch will be slightly lower than the smaller device.

Apple Starting In-Store iPhone Device Repair Program

A new report is suggesting that Apple will be significantly expanding the services that it offers in retail stores to include replacements of certain components of iPhone devices. According to 9to5Mac, Apple will be giving stores the capability to replace the displays on iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C devices in the near future, meaning that users looking for replacements will be able to get their own device fixed, rather than accepting a refurbished unit as a replacement.

Apparently, a new glass display for either the 5S or the 5C will cost walk-in customers approximately $149. However, this cost is reduced for those who have purchased AppleCare+ and will only cost $79 for those people. Interestingly the report also suggests that other minor components such as power buttons, volume buttons, the speaker and perhaps even the Home button.

Apple has today announced the public release of the next generation Mac operating system, OS X Mavericks, a new OS that gives a substantial number of enhancements and improvements to the existing Mac OS, but gives more focus to efficiency and power/memory usage. The new OS also offers a new Maps app and iBooks app, document tagging, as well as supporting website notifications. A new Keychain feature also syncs data across all devices. In an incredibly surprising move for Apple, OS X Mavericks will be made available to all users free of charge today.

Apple Announces Media Event For October 22

Apple has today issued invitations for a media event on October 22 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. The event, set to begin at 10am PST, is widely expected to be the launch event for the new generation of iPad devices as well as the new Mac line-up (via AllThingsD). The invitations for the event use the tagline “We still have a lot to cover”, and the company will likely be using the event to launch the new iPad 5 and Retina Display-enabled iPad mini 2.

In addition to the new iPads, Apple is also expected to launch the brand new Mac Pro and upgrade the MacBook Pro line-up with latest generation Intel Haswell processors that offer staggering improvements in battery life. Apple is also expected to publicly launch the OS X 10.9 Mavericks operating system for Mac.

The September 2013 Apple Event Round-Up

Apple today held a media event at their Cupertino campus in California to introduce a number of brand new devices and software, including the iPhone 5S, the iPhone 5C and the new iOS 7 operating system for mobile devices. Here is a run-down of all of the pertinent points from the event, which also included developments in iWork and iTunes Radio.

iOS 7 Showcase
Apple SVP of Software Engineering Craig Federighi came on stage to showcase iOS 7, the new operating system that contains a huge number of new features including new lock screen and notification center developments, enhancements for new Apple devices, as well as an entirely new user interface. Federighi announced that iOS 7 would be launching on September 18 and will be compatible with most iOS devices including the iPhone 4 and later, the iPad 2 and later, the first generation iPad mini and the iPod touch. The new software will be free of charge and will also ship with all new Apple devices. Apple has plugged in a new version of Safari and has made several improvements to Siri. There is a new multitasking view for the OS as well as three new ringtones. The software also contains a new Photos app, with better organization of images, as well as new filters for the Camera app. iOS 7 also ships with iTunes Radio, the new Apple music streaming service.

The invitations, sent with the tagline ‘This should brighten everyone’s day.’ and in the color themes of iOS 7, are for an event at which Apple is expected to officially launch the iPhone 5C and the iPhone 5S (via The Loop). The events starts at 10am PST (1pm EST, 6pm GMT), but there is no word of whether a live stream of the event will be available to the public.

Apple Recruits For Rumored New Edinburgh Princes Street Apple Store

Apple is¬†recruiting for a new Apple retail store which has been rumored to be the first store opening in Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland. The company has today posted a significant number of retail positions for an Edinburgh retail location, despite Edinburgh not currently having an Apple Store. Given recent rumors surrounding the launch of such a store, it’s not entirely unexpected that the company has now begun the recruiting process for staff.

The store, expected to be opened on Princes Street in Edinburgh is expected to open by the end of the year and is said to be massive, with two levels spanning 9000 square feet and another 8,500 square feet of background storage. ifoapplestore.com posted some background information, including planning documents, on the store itself earlier this year. Notably, the store has not been confirmed either by Apple itself or by the architects, MPA Architects, involved in the project, but the plans clearly show an Apple-style store.
