Microsoft Office For iPad And iPhone Is Ready For Release

Microsoft Office iPad
Microsoft Office for iOS devices is apparently ready to be released to the public, according to a new report (Reuters). Microsoft has apparently been working so hard on the software that it is ready for a full release as soon as new Microsoft Chief Executive, Satya Nadella, has decided when it will be released. According to the report, Microsoft is losing a substantial amount of income, around $2.5 billion per year, the longer that it delays release of an iPad version.

Given that Office for the iPad will be targeted towards both business and personal users, there will likely be the strongest possible focus on cloud storage, probably via Microsoft OneDrive, and team collaboration, taking influences from Google Docs.

Rumor: Apple May Launch Standalone App For iTunes Radio

iTunes Radio
A new report is suggesting that Apple is considering launching a standalone iTunes Radio app as it seeks to compete against other streaming services such as Spotify, Rdio and Pandora. The claim comes from 9to5Mac who are saying that the separate app is in testing phase as part of iOS 8, the next generation operating system for Apple mobile devices which is expected to launch at some point this year. iTunes Radio currently exists as a tab within the Music app that comes with iOS 7, but Apple is apparently planning to roll all of the existing functionality into a separate app for devices with iOS 8.

The iPod Isn’t Dead As Apple Recruits For New iPod Product Launch Managers

iPod touch
With the relatively recent¬†announcement in January that Apple shipped only 6 million iPods in the October-December timeframe of 2013, many reports started to suggest that the end was nigh for Apple’s iconic product. However, the company is clearly still planning to launch brand new models of the iPod in the future as the company continues to recruit for New Product Introduction Operations Program Managers (NPI OPM) for the iPod line-up.

According to the advertisements which have been posted three times over the past two months, the most recent appearing yesterday, the NPI is ‘pivotal to the fast-paced development and launch of Apple’s products’, ensuring that new product launches are made on time and with maximum availability. Given that Apple is specifically recruiting for Managers to deal specifically with new products in the iPod line, it’s therefore likely that new models are in the pipeline.

Rumor: Standard MacBook Pro To Be Discontinued This Year

2011 MacBook Pro

Apple will reportedly be stopping production of the standard MacBook Pro line this year as it shifts full production towards Retina Display models, according to a new report from Digitimes. The article suggests that Apple will be halting all sales of the 13 inch non-Retina Display MacBook Pro, which was last updated in mid-2012, so that the entire MacBook Pro line-up will ship with Retina Display included.

Production of the larger 15 inch model of the non-Retina MacBook Pro was actually ceased last year, and while the company has continued to produce the smaller model, it is not surprising that it is being discontinued. This is particularly true when considering the standard MacBook Pro model in the context of the MacBook Air which offers the latest generation Intel Haswell processors in a non-Retina model.

Buy Apple TV, Get A $25 Gift Card…Because Why Not?

Apple TV
Apple has started offering a $25 iTunes gift card with the purchase of any Apple TV device, prompting speculation that the company was trying to drive down stock levels. Reports suggested that Apple was offering the gift card as an incentive to lower existing stocks of the Apple TV as it prepared to launch an updated model of the device. However, well-sourced Jim Dalrymple has poured cold water on the idea, pointing out that Apple will categorically not be launching a new Apple TV in the coming weeks.

Rumor: iWatch Will Not Monitor Blood Glucose But ‘Healthbook’ App Still Could

iPod nano Watch
A new in depth report from Network World is suggesting that the technology required to install blood glucose monitoring in the long rumored iWatch is still in too much of its infancy to be included in a wristwatch type device. The report says that one of the methods used to measure glucose would be Raman spectroscopy which uses light refractivity to measure molecules such as glucose or hemoglobin. However, the power requirements of the technique preclude any sort of inclusion in a wrist mounted device.

Intel 2014 Processor line

The Intel roadmap, published by VR-Zone (via MacRumors) shows that the next version of an appropriate mobile processor chip for the MacBook Air is set for release in the third quarter of this year. The processor, identified as an i5-4260U Haswell chip with increased speed, is shown on the roadmap for Q3, with Broadwell processors (the successor to Haswell), not launching until Q1 2015.
