Rumor: Launch Of The 5.5 Inch iPhone ‘Air’ Has Been Delayed

iPhone 5S
According to a new report, a 5.5 inch version of the next generation iPhone 6, or ‘iPhone Air’ as it has been referred to, will not launch as early as originally anticipated, and will in fact not launch until 2015. The report comes from the Taiwanese publication Industrial and Commercial Times (via MacRumors), and suggests that the reason for the later launch estimate is that Apple is having trouble finding a battery technology that will meet the significantly thinner form factor of the device.

iPhone 6 May Be More Expensive

iPhone 5S
A new rumor is suggesting that the iPhone 6 could be significantly more expensive than current models as Apple is apparently negotiating with wireless carriers to increase the price of the device by up to $100. According to Jefferies analyst, Peter Misek, networks are reluctant to make the change as they don’t want to increase the price above the $199 with contract that is currently being charged (via StreetInsider). However, demand for the device means that Apple has a significant amount of influence in terms of dictating carrier-based prices.

It is unclear at the moment whether this is a general cost increase and if the new device would also increase in price for unlocked devices. The reason for the increase is being attributed towards Apple looking to increase their profit margins from the device, which is expected to be the most popular smartphone launched this year.

iTunes May Be Revamped

iTunes Radio
A new report is suggesting that Apple is considering a revamp of the iTunes Store in order to increase music sales in the face of streaming music services like Rdio and Spotify taking substantial amounts of market share. The report comes from Billboard, who say that Apple is still considering the launch of a streaming music service in order to increase music revenue.

The repot suggests that the overhaul would concentrate on the iTunes Store itself, rather than the iTunes software itself, although it is likely that many users would welcome such a change. With iTunes Radio only succeeding in converting 1-2% of listeners towards buying music, it is clear that streaming music is leading the market.
