iPad 2 And iPad 3 Pictured Together

A new set of pictures has appeared that show the iPad 2 and the iPad 3 side by side, giving a better idea of the changes in design that will be seen when the as-yet-unannounced iPad 3 is expected to be announced next month. The pictures, from MICGadget, appear to show the two iPad models on top of each other from various angles and, if accurate, seem to show that the iPad 3 is marginally thicker than the iPad 2, as has been rumored previously.

In addition, the new iPad 3 has more tapering of the aluminum rear panel near the edges of the device which is likely to make the device ‘feel’ very thin to users that handle it, despite the fact that it seems to be a little thicker than the iPad 2. The pictures also seem to indicate that Apple certainly isn’t varying very far from the design of the iPad 2 and that it would be very difficult to tell the iPad 2 and the iPad 3 apart without looking very closely.

Rumor: Brand New iTunes Store And App Store To Launch This Year

A new report is suggesting that Apple is hard at work revamping the user interface and structure of the iTunes and iOS App Store fronts and that the new UI will launch later this year. According to 9to5Mac, the new interface will make it easier for consumers to find and download quality new apps and music, putting continued focus on purchasing, downloading and consuming content.

The site is reporting that the new interface will be more simple than the current iTunes interface and will be much more focused upon interactivity and the user experience. The new interface will likely be designed to reflect the increasing importance of the App Store in the Apple ecosystem. As the number of apps increases, so does the difficulty in finding quality apps, or quite simply, that app that you are looking for.

Rumor: iPhone 5 For Fall 2012 Launch

The next version of the iPhone, the iPhone 5 if following historical nomenclature, will be released by Apple in the Fall of this year, according to Japanese site Macotakara. The site reports that they have some reliable Asian sources that suggest that the company is establishing a new release schedule for the iPhone and will be maintaining a Fall release date for the next generation iPhone, as they did with the iPhone 4S.

Initially, new iPhone models were released in the summer time frame, around June or July. However, when the summer of 2011 passed by without so much as a glimpse of the iPhone 4S, there was much tearing of hair as consumers tried to work out how this would affect their upgrade cycle. The launch of the iPhone 4S in October was, therefore, a relief.

Amazon Not Selling New Apple TV Any More?

AppleBitch has been informed that Amazon.com has ceased selling new units of the current generation of Apple TV from its own stock, Following on from recent reports that the retailer showed an sharp increase in shipping times for the Apple TV, Amazon.com has removed listings of new Apple TV’s from the shelves of its online store. Consumers looking for the second generation Apple TV device will have to either go elsewhere, or purchase a used or refurbished version.

The news comes as rumors swirl about an imminent upgrade to the Apple TV, with a third generation model potentially set for launch next month alongside the iPad 3. Amazon certainly doesn’t appear to be the only retailer discontinuing the model though as 9to5Mac spotted that other major stores such as Best Buy and Walmart have ‘erased them from existance’.

Rumor: iOS 5.1 Leaked, New ‘Fast’ Camera Access

A new pre-release build of the next generation of Apple’s operating system for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, iOS 5.1, has apparently been leaked to the Portuguese site BlogdoiPhone (via MacRumors). As such, they have posted screenshots of what is reportedly a revamped lock screen, featuring a new camera control feature. The camera icon is now reportedly present all the time in the lock screen whereas previously users would have had to double tap the Home button on their iOS device to click it.

But what about accidental presses of the camera icon, you may ask? The new screenshot, if genuine, appears to show a camera icon that requires an upward swipe i.e. it would not be activated by an over enthusiastic side swipe to unlock the device. So one upward swipe would be all that is required for the camera app to launch, a new feature that is sure to please users who have been frustrated in trying to take a quick picture when their iPhone is locked.

Rumor: March 7th Is The Day Of The iPad 3

March 7th is apparently going to be the day when Apple is planning on unveiling the iPad 3 to the world. This is according to a new report from iMore who are suggesting that Apple will host a media event in the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, located in San Francisco. The YBCA is no stranger to iPad announcements because Apple also happened to choose this venue for the launch of both the iPad and the iPad 2.

The source of the information is unclear but, according to the site, have been reliable in the past. Certainly the day is free in the YBCA calendar and fits with previous reports that Apple would introduce the device in the first week of March.

Rumor: Smaller 8 Inch iPad, Smaller Chance

A new report is suggesting that Apple is collaborating with supplier partners to test a new 8 inch iPad that is smaller and more compact than the current iPad 2 model and the rumored iPad 3. The WSJ is suggesting that Apple floating the idea of an 8 inch tablet with suppliers and is looking to indentify potential component manufacturers for the new tablet.

The report goes on to suggest that there wouldn’t be any dramatic resolution changes between the iPad and the ‘iPad-mini’ as some are calling it and therefore developers wouldn’t need to resize their apps to run on a different resolution. However, it is cautioned in the article that Apple unsurprisingly plays with new sizes and designs all the time and, as such, this device may never see the light of day.

Rumor: Brand New MacBook Pro Design Coming This Year

A new rumor is suggesting that Apple will abandon the current design of the MacBook Pro this year in favor of a new Air-like design. According to a rumor sourced by AppleInsider from the dreaded ‘people familiar with the Apple roadmap’, the current design of the Pro will be discontinued and a design that is based on the thin, and highly popular, MacBook Air will be introduced in its place. The new models will apparently lose the optical drive that is currently in the MacBook Pro but not in the Air, and will be introduced initially in 15 and 17 inch models.

The new MacBook Pro would likely retain the aluminum unibody that has proven so popular among Apple laptop users, and has certainly been a regular feature in the rumor mill for the past couple of years, particularly since the launch of the updated MacBook Air design. Certainly the loss of an optical drive would be a reasonable assumption given the fact that Apple has discontinued offering its products by that medium. It only seemed to be a matter of time.

NYT Adopts Apple Marketing Speak To Describe iPad 3 Screen

A new article from the New York Times has popped up following the sharp increase in the number of leaks and new information concerning the specifications and launch date of Apple’s iPad 3. The publication gushes over the as yet unannounced device by saying that it will have a ‘truly amazing’ screen. In a report that confirms what is already known, the publication suggests that the new device will be going all out and will have a greatly upgraded screen, improved processor and that the size and shape will not differ dramatically from the iPad 2.

Sadly the NYT article stops short of noting that the iPad 3 would change everything again or that it would be even harder to put down that the iPad 2, but still lends its support to the claims that the iPad 3 will be a much faster device. With component leaks seemingly occurring on an hourly basis, it does seems pretty certain now that the iPad 3 will also have a highly desirable screen, multi-touch and multi-talented, which will be good for work, play and everything in between.

iPad 3 Launch Date Will Be First Week In March

A new report has popped up from the well-sourced AllThingsD which is suggesting that Apple will be holding a launch event for the iPad 3 in the first week of March. The report suggests that the event will be held in San Francisco at either the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts or else the Moscone Center, and that the device may go on sale quite quickly after the media event, perhaps even within a week or so.

The report goes on to say that the device will be pretty much in line with the rumors surrounding the specifications which mean that it will likely ship with a greatly improved Retina Display, thought to be at 2048 x 1536. In addition, there will be a much faster processor inside, suggesting that it will include a new A6 processor, perhaps even quad-core, rather than dual core (in contrast to a recent rumor). The device will also reportedly have greatly upgraded cameras.
