Rumor: Apple Bringing IGZO Displays to iPad And MacBook

Apple is reportedly investigating the use of IGZO displays in its mobile devices in order to further reduce power consumption of its market leading displays. According to Korean site ETNews, the company is looking to bring IGZO (indium gallium zinc oxide) displays to a number of its products, predominantly because of the extraordinary power efficiency and resolution quality. The products that are being named as potential candidates to receive the first IGZO displays are the MacBook line up and the iPad.

The rumor suggests that the first MacBooks with IGZO displays could actually appear in the first few months of 2014. With the highlight of the latest generation of MacBook Air models as being an all day 12 hour battery life, it seems almost inconceivable that the power consumption of the display could reduce further, perhaps paving the way for Retina Displays in the MacBook Air line.
