Apple is recruiting for an engineer who will be able to help develop novel gesture and handwriting recognition technologies for their future products. An advertisement appeared today on the Apple recruitment website for a Multitouch Sensor Algorithms Engineer who has expertise in developing algorithms for sensor pattern, gesture or handwriting recognition systems. It’s unclear if the engineer would work on a specific handwriting recognition application or if the algorithms would be hard-baked into the OS to add to the user experience.
The company has been reported in the past to be investigating better ways of managing handwriting recognition by filing patents that center around allowing better handwriting recognition whilst ignoring irregular or irregular touches on a screen. It now seems that they are serious about improving this further, particularly given the incredible success of handwriting recognition applications such as Penultimate (pictured above).
