Rumor: Wireless Charging For iPhone In 2013

Lightning Connector
A new report is suggesting that Apple could be looking to implement wireless charging in the iPhone as early as 2013. The report comes from Digitimes who cite ‘industry sources’ which point towards Apple adopting a new wireless charging technology for the iPhone that the company has been working on internally. Further confusing its initial claim, the report notes that it is unknown if the next generation iPhone will come with built in wireless charging technology, or whether their will be other attached accessories.

With Apple expected to launch the iPhone 5S this year, with small incremental performance improvements over the current iPhone 5, it is relatively unlikely that such a dramatic change to power management would be implemented at this incremental update stage. As such, many would argue that it would be the iPhone 6 that would be more likely to be the first device to adopt this technology, if at all.

Highly Charged…

Wireless charging… I dont think so. To charge my phone I have to have that “wireless” charger with me anyway! And plug THAT device into the holes in a wall! Whats the point really? If not charged thru the air! :D

I’m not sure wireless charging is a move in the right direction given that most of the power is wasted. Wireless charging is at best 70% transfer efficient. We are supposed to be moving in the direction of energy conservation.
