A new series of pictures have been posted which appear to offer a substantial amount of information relating to the design of the next generation iPad, tentatively called the iPad 5. The photos (via 9to5Mac) appear to show the rear shell of the next generation iPad, clearly demonstrating a device that has taken design influences from the iPad mini. The iPad case that is pictured is the black slate version and appears to thinner form factor, similar to the iPad mini, as well as being reduced in size both horizontally and vertically. The size reductions only affect the bezel however, rather than the size of screen which would remain at 9.7 inches.
The image is sourced from a Chinese iPad accessories manufacturer and there are no firm claims about authenticity. The pictures do however, show consistency with a previous report suggesting that Apple was planning to offer a redesigned iPad 5 that took design influences from the iPad mini.
There are no details relating to the specifications of the new device, but previous rumors have suggested that Apple is looking to launch the new iPad in October 2013. The new device will likely have a new IZGO display screen to reduce thickness, and may even be offered with 128GB storage.
