The Fusion Drive, one of the new features of the recently launched iMac revamp, is now being offered as an option to consumers looking to purchase the entry level 21.5 inch iMac (via MacGeneration). Previously, the Fusion Drive was only available to those who were buying the upgraded 21.5 inch iMac as well as the 27 inch version of the iMac.
The Fusion Drive is the hybrid offering from Apple that combines the speed of an SSD with the capacity of a HDD offering superfast read and and write speeds for drives in excess of 1TB in size. The Drive, whilst available in the iMac, is also available in the Mac mini and has received a warm reception from consumers who don’t want to pay astronomical prices for high capacity SSDs that are lacking in size when compared to slower Hard Disk Drives.
That said, there are some who have considered the Fusion Drive as moving into the realms of price gouging.
