Apple is now apparently in the process of testing a minor iOS update, iOS 6.0.1, with carriers with the update likely to hit users in the coming weeks. The report comes from BGR who say that one of their Apple sources has let slip about the update and that numerous bugs will be fixed with the update, including enhanced Wi-Fi support and fixes for cellular data.
The site also reports that Apple has only just started testing a bigger iOS update in the form of iOS 6.1. It is suggested, therefore, that it will still be some time before users get to see the iOS 6.1 update and that it may not even hit until early next year, of course dependent upon how the testing goes. This means that the iPad mini which is expected to be unveiled tomorrow will likely ship with iOS 6.0 or iOS 6.0.1 when it is made available for purchase in the coming days.
BGR has a mixed record relating to new Apple products, but it makes sense that iOS 6.0.1 is in testing and will be released in a matter of days, particularly since it was release over a month ago. For comparisons sake, iOS 5.0.1 was released around a month after iOS 5.0 and iOS 5.1 came around five months after the release of iOS 5.0.
