The wait for Twitter superawesomeness is finally over. You read it right, Tweetbot for Mac has finally been unleashed upon the Mac App Store. The new app (complete with a funky new icon), looks beautiful and brings all of the brilliance demonstrated in the alpha and beta versions of the app into the stable mainstream. The price of the app may be a small sticking point for some, however, as due to the restrictions that Twitter is placing on the number of users that a third-party Twitter client can have, the developers have had to charge more money for the app.
The app itself is a fantastic experience, bringing all the best features of the iOS version of the app to the Mac desktop. The official Twitter app doesn’t even get a look in when compared to the quality of this app, but that is perhaps an unfair comparison given that the Twitter app is free of charge. That said, the $20 fee for Tweetbot does pose an interesting question in how much people are willing to pay for a Twitter client. While I do believe the reasoning and rationale for the pricing, I’m pretty sure Tapbots aren’t overtly distressed about receiving $14 for every copy sold.
The bottom line is, if you are a Tweetbot for Mac alpha or beta user (isn’t everybody?), then you’ll know exactly what you are getting. If you haven’t had the chance to experience it yet, then you’re gonna face a tough decision on whether to drop the twenty bucks. Being honest, I dropped it without hesitation.
That’s how good it is.
