Microsoft is reportedly going to be releasing a brand new Office suite in March 2013, and it is destined for iOS devices. A new report from The Verge is saying that Microsoft Product Manager Petr Bobek has revealed that native Office apps for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch will likely be made available to businesses in December of this year and that consumers could see Office 2013 for iOS devices available from the end of February 2013. The report is apparently supported by a press release from Microsoft’s team in the Czech Republic with detailed information on the launch.
Microsoft have been hesitant with regard to speaking about Office apps appearing on iOS devices, but rumors earlier this year had pointed towards screenshots that showed native Office 2013 apps running on an iPad. The launch of Office for iPad had been rumored to be taking place in November of this year, so a launch early next year isn’t too far outwith that timeframe.
There has been no word on pricing of the new apps, but Microsoft will likely be looking to effectively compete with the popular iWork apps on iOS devices which currently retail for $9.99 each.
