The Apple Media Event to announce the iPhone 5 takes place on September 12 at 10am PST / 1pm EST / 6pm UK.

- iPod touch receives a big update. New thinner form factor, and colored back plates. Improved 5 megapixel camera and wrist strap loop. Available in 32GB ($299) and 64GB ($399) models
- iPod shuffle upgraded with new colors
- iPod line receives a redesign. New iPod nano with larger screen and lightning connector. Has a pedometer and widescreen video and comes in seven colors – will retail for $149
- iTunes 11 exists with iCloud at the heart. New features include new mini player, search functionality, and library features.
- iOS 6 will be released on September 19
- Preorders will start on September 14, Shipping will start on September 21 for the US, UK France, Germany, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore. 21 more countries one week later.
- The iPhone 5 will cost the same as the iPhone 4S.$199 for 16GB, $399 for 64GB
- The iPhone 5 comes in black and slate, or white and aluminum
- The new iPhone 5 comes with iOS 6, the latest version of Apple’s mobile device operating system. New Maps, upgrades to Mail and Notification center, new Passbook app, shared photo streams. Siri also has improvements related to Sports and Movies.
- The new dock connector is 80% smaller, 8 signal interface and can be plugged in any orientation. Apple has also produced an adapter to allow connection to the existing 30 pin dock connector.
- The new iPhone 5 utilizes a smaller dock connector, called Lightning, to reflect less reliance on wired data transfer
- There are now 3 microphones contained within the iPhone, so you can take great pleasure in Facetime over a cellular connection
- The new camera also takes 1080p video like the 4S, but users can take photos at the same time as shooting video
- And with iOS 6, there are shared photo streams.
- The camera on the iPhone 5 has an 8MP sensor with 3264×2448 pixel resolution that has been enhanced from the iPhone 4S with improved low light mode and better lens alignment, with a sapphire crystal lens cover. The camera can now also take panoramic images
- Battery life on the iPhone 5 is better than the iPhone 4S. 8 hours of LTE and 10 hours of Wi-Fi browsing. 225 hours of standby time.
- The internals of the iPhone 5 have been completely overhauled with an A6 chip that has twice the processing and graphics power
- In Europe, it’s Deutsche Telecom and EE in the UK
- The iPhone 5 supports 4G LTE, through Sprint, AT&T and Verizon in the US, Rogers Telus, Bell, Virgin, Fido and Koodoo in Canada
- The display has touch sensors integrated right in, instead of underneath the screen. It makes the display better and offers less glare in sunlight
- All apps can be updated for the new display and any apps will run at native size if they haven’t been updated yet i.e. not stretched.
- Apple has updated all iOS 6 apps to take advantage of the larger display including Mail, Safari, Calendar, Maps, iWork apps, iPhoto, Garageband, iMovie etc.
- The iPhone 5 is 18% thinner than the iPhone 4S and 20% lighter. It has a 4 inch display and a resolution of 1136 x 640 with a 16:9 screen aspect ratio. The display has 44% more color saturation.
- The iPhone 5 is made of glass and aluminum and looks exactly like the mock-ups, concept renders and leaked shells that have been seen before.

- 7 Million users have upgraded to the latest version of the Mac OS – 10.8 Mountain Lion
- Tim Cook is on stage and the event has begun. He is giving a short introduction to where things are in Apple world i.e. retail, sales etc.
- The press is now being led into the YBCA where the event is taking place, but thankfully Joss Stone has been forcefully restrained outside (kidding!)
