A new report has identified new cases arriving at AT&T retail stores as third party cases that are apparently compatible with the iPhone 5, expected to be announced later this month. Hot on the heels of the iPhone 5 event announcement by Apple, BGR reports that iPhone 5 cases, complete with some pretty convinving renders of what they will look like when an iPhone 5 is housed within them, have appeared in the AT&T inventory system. The new cases are being touted as being able to fit the new device that Apple is planning on launching in the coming weeks.
Interestingly, however, the new report parallels a similar report last year, also by BGR, in which cases produced by popular third party case manufacturer, Case-Mate, started showing up on the Case-Mate website prior to the launch of the iPhone 4S, showing a dramatically redesigned iPhone when compared to the iPhone 4. Of course, the new cases were rendered useless weeks later when Apple launched the iPhone 4S which had an identical design to the iPhone 4.
Given the number of parts leaks for the new iPhone 5, you might be forgiven for being pretty convinced of what the new device will actually look like, but as last year showed, leaks can sometimes be wrong.
