The company behind the popular Windows virtualization software for Mac, VMware, today announced that the latest version of their software VMware Fusion 5 is being made available to the public. Specifically designed to support the latest operating systems of Windows 8 and OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, Fusion 5 brings with it over 70 new features. The new software contains full support for Windows 8 Standard, Pro and Enterprise editions, so that ‘Metro’, the new Windows environment, can be configured on the Mac.
In addition, the new Fusion 5 package is also compatible with AirPlay mirroring to allow streaming of both Mac and Windows applications to an HDTV. Notification Center in Mountain Lion is also fully supported. The new software is apparently 40% faster than previous editions and includes new graphics driver support.
Fusion 5 is available for $49.99 for the standard edition and is also available as a free upgrade if you purchased Fusion 4 after July 25, 2012. The professional version of Fusion 5 is available for $99.99.
