Rumor: iPad Mini Production Will Actually Begin In September

A new report is suggesting that production of the highly anticipated 7.85 inch iPad mini will actually start in September, casting doubt over a launch of the device alongside the iPhone 5 next month. According to Digitimes, Apple has an assembly target of up to 4 million units of the new device per month with a view to generating enough supplies of the device to cope with demand that would occur should the new iPad be released before the Christmas holiday season.

Previous reports have been conflicted with the timing of the iPad mini launch with some suggesting that it would be unveiled and launched in September alongside the new iPhone 5, but some reports suggesting that it would be unveiled by Apple in September but not launched until much later, perhaps in October.

The report also points to a $299 price point for the new device, in line with expectation.

Happy Holiday…
