A new photo has emerged showing the brand new dock connector that is expected to be part of the new iPhone 5 and iPad mini and it’s pretty cool. The photo comes from iResQ (via MacRumors) who have posted pictures of a number of internal components that are thought to be part of the new devices that Apple is expected to launch next month. The site also gives a really up close photo of the dock connector showing 8 connection pins on the interior of the port.
What’s interesting is that the site posts photos of both black and white dock connectors, indicating that the docks will be color matched to the color of the device that they are housed in. However, while many recent rumors have suggested that the new dock connector will be magnetic like the MagSafe connectors on the Mac, the new photos appear to show a dock with a plastic ring around the edge, so it would be tough to see how it was actually magnetic, without a metal ring.
