Tapbots, the awesome creators of Tweetbot for iOS devices, have issued an update for the alpha version of Tweetbot for Mac, and it’s a big one. The new version of the Mac Twitter client allows users to bring in multiple columns so that they can view different timelines, @ responses or even a separate search and trending column. The coolest implementation of this new feature is perhaps the fact that you can view multiple Twitter accounts at once in different columns.
The update also brings with it the ability to geotag tweets as well as integration with Notification Center in Mountain Lion. This applies to all accounts, not just the primary one. There is also a menu bar icon for the app as well. The update also brings with it some bug fixes and stability improvements, although these are not as prevalent as one might expect from alpha release software.
One thing to consider, however, is that this ain’t gonna make Twitter happy, particularly since the latest version of Tweetbot will be a direct, and likely superior, competitor to the Tweetdeck Twitter client that Twitter acquired for several million dollars in 2011. Given the recent reports that Twitter is closing down their open APIs, it will be interesting to see how the relationship between Twitter, Tweetdeck and Tweetbot continues to evolve.
You can grab the update through the ‘Check for Updates’ option if you already have Tweetbot alpha, or else you can download it here if you don’t.
