Apple has announced that OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion will be unleashed upon the public today and will cost $19.99. Apple made the announcement in the press release that accompanied the Q3 earnings announcement and call that took place yesterday. The press release can be found here and records some amazing sales numbers, including the sale of 17 million iPads in the June Quarter.
Mountain Lion is the next iteration of OS X and will be available exclusively through the Mac App Store. There is no word on what time the launch will actually take place but when 10.7 Lion was released last year, the launch time was between 8 and 9am EST, which could indicate a similar launch time today. While Mountain Lion is available for $19.99 to everyone, bear in mind that if you purchased a Mac after June 11th of this year, then you will have 30 days from today to claim a free update from Lion to Mountain Lion, using Apple’s Up-To-Date program.
