The first full untethered jailbreak for devices running iOS 5.1.1 is expected to be unveiled tomorrow at the Hack in the Box security conference. That’s according to the iDownload Blog (via CultofMac) who have spotted that the official Twitter account for the conference has just posted a new ‘Jailbreak Live’ event scheduled for Friday. This suggests that Pod2g, who posted to Twitter this week that the jailbreak would be getting released within days, will be unveiling the iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak tomorrow at the conference.
The conference is now selling passes for the one day jailbreak event for the staggering price of 700 Euros to give people a chance to witness what will be a significant moment in iOS history. According to the original report the jailbreak event will take place between 9am and 6pm local tomorrow (translating to a 3am EST start). There is no word on how long it would take to issue a full public release of the jailbreak but if it’s unveiled tomorrow, expect to it to be issued pretty quickly.
The jailbreak is expected to support all iOS devices running iOS 5.1.1 except for one which is the third generation Apple TV. Notably it is an untethered jailbreak, not a carrier unlock meaning that use of the jailbreak might result in the loss of an unlock already in place on a device.
We’ll report on it tomorrow when all is revealed.
