A jailbreak for the newest version of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 5.1.1 is just days away, according to a new Twitter message from Pod2g, the team working on a full untethered jailbreak. As spotted by iPhoneinCanada, Pod2g posted a message that suggested that the jailbreak was ‘near ready for a release. Now it’s a matter of days’. The jailbreak will be particularly useful for those users who have recently purchased a new iPad or iPhone 4S that is shipped with iOS 5.1.
The new jailbreak will allow users who have already upgraded from iOS 5.0.1 to iOS 5.1.1 to perform a jailbreak on their device that doesn’t require tethering following a restart i.e. a full untethered jailbreak. It is worth noting, however, that this is not a carrier unlock for the iPhone and the use of this jailbreak may result in the loss of an unlock that is already in place.
As noted on the blog page of Pod2g, the only device that will not be supported by the new jailbreak will be the Apple TV 3 i.e. the latest version. However, it is expected to work with all other iOS devices upon release.
