Apple Looking To Acquire The Domain ‘iPhone5.com’

Apple is reportedly looking to secure ownership of the domain ‘iPhone5.com, according to a new discovery by Fusible (via MacRumors). The company has apparently filed a claim with the World Intellectual Property Organization, who are conducting an investigation into whether they can gain control of the domain. The investigation is currently ongoing but given that the company has historically managed to secure iPhone4.com and iPhone4S.com, it seems that the odds are in their favor.

Perhaps the more interesting area to speculate on is why Apple is looking to secure this particular domain. Obviously there has been a strong amount of debate about what Apple would be looking to call the next generation iPhone and the iPhone 5 had been the most natural choice. However, with the launch of the ‘new iPad’, Apple seems to be breaking the terminology trends that many people had expected so perhaps newiphone.com will be the next domain to be targeted.

Virtually Pointed…

Too bad for the little guy. Apple would prefer to intimidate you by taking you to court, or crush you in court rather than
having to fork out a few bucks for the website you paid for and have
been running for a couple of years. It’s of no importance that you’re
promoting their product. The fact that they’ve got a spare $100 billion
floating around is beside the point.

Whats that? You want Flash on your iDevice? Good luck with that. In fact
they’re thinking of restricting it from all Macs as well as HTML5 is
the future. It’s totally irrelevant what you use now as you’re obviously
brainwashed and will quite happily comply.

Can you just send me your band’s latest recording via bluetooth so I can
have a listen? You can’t? What do you mean you have to use iTunes to
load songs onto your iPhone? Sure, I guess I can buy it through iTunes,
what’s their cut by the way? 30%!? You must be kidding! Did they help
    you write the songs?

The sooner people realise how restrictive their pretty iToys really are, the better.
