According to a new report (via MacRumors), Apple has reached a court settlement over a lawsuit that was concerned with early fraying of MagSafe adapters for MacBook models. The class-action lawsuit was brought about because some users had apparently been experiencing problems related to the cables on some MagSafe adapters fraying.
The offer of a refund from Apple is certainly nothing new as the company has been offering the refund for years. The company has simply updated their support document to note that a settlement has been reached and to illustrate the procedures that should be followed in the event that a consumer wishes to make a refund claim.
I’ve certainly been one of the ones affected as I had to purchase a replacement MagSafe for a 2009 MacBook Pro (mine frayed near the power brick rather than the MagSafe connector. You may be in this group too so take a look at the Apple support document and the lawsuit page.
