Rumor: 15 Inch Ultra Thin Apple Notebook

Following on from a report in July in which two sources (MacRumors and TUAW) suggested that Apple was about to start production of a 15 inch ultra-thin notebook computer, Macotakara has come forward to suggest that product development has now finished for such a device and that it could enter production soon. The site suggests that the notebook will simply a 15 inch version of the MacBook Air.

The success of the MacBook Air in 11 inch and 13 inch models has been stated again and again, with Apple even discontinuing their base model white MacBook in favor of the new Air. Since its release last year, the Air has arguably set the standard for ultra thin notebook computers, with the latest iteration carrying Intel Sandy Bridge processors that, when paired with the SSD storage, result in a blisteringly fast laptop.

It’s unclear at the moment whether the new 15 inch laptop would offer an identical design to the current MacBook Air or if it simply represents a thinner, re-designed version of the MacBook Pro. It should be noted that original reports placed this new 15 inch notebook as launching before Christmas but given that the MacBook Pro was only updated last week with new Intel Processors, it seems unlikely that Apple would release an entirely new model just weeks after updating the previous one.

Perhaps, therefore, a 15 inch Air, or even 17 inch going by previous reports, doesn’t seem out of the realms of possibility.

Set The Standard…
