Rumor: New MacBook Specifications Revealed (Updated)

Following on from their report last week, 9to5Mac has managed to get hold of the specifications for the new models of MacBook Pro that they say are expected to launch as early as this week. The new MacBook Pro’s are set to receive updates to their processors, incorporating the latest Intel Sandy Bridge chips, and will also likely include bumps to Bluetooth 4.0.

The new models have Dual Core chips running at either 2.4 or 2.8 GHz (in the 13 inch model), Quad Core chips at 2.2 or 2.4 GHz in the 15 inch model and 2.4 GHz in the 17 inch model.  Users can also elect to have 2.5 GHz chips in the 15 or 17 inch as custom options.  The report also suggests that the new models are at the same price points as the comparable existing models.

This is the second spec bump of the year for the MacBook Pro as they were updated in February with new Intel chips, Thunderbolt ports and new graphics cards.  The design remains the same as it has since this version was launched in October 2008, and it may leave some people wondering when the company will launched a new version.

Certainly, the popularity of the MacBook Air has to have Apple thinking about how they will take the MacBook Pro line forward, and while hard drive storage may be here for some time yet, one wonders if this will be the last iteration of the Pro with the current form factor.

Updated: New MacBooks are now available.
