Apple has formally announced that it will hold an iPhone media event on October 4th, according to an invitation sent to Jim Dalrymple of LoopInsight. The event will apparently take place at the Apple campus in Cupertino, CA and will begin at 10am PST. There are no details available on what devices will be launched and who will be delivering the keynote address.
The invitation, typically cryptic by Apple standards, displays a grid of iPhone icons and certainly doesn’t give anything away although going by recent rumors, one could speculate why those specific icons were chosen (think iOS 5 Assistant, new maps, new iPhone etc). News of the event to launch the new iPhone is consistent with reports that had placed the event on October 4th prior to invites being issued, so if the same holds true for other rumors, then the new iPhone will appear for sale on October 14th, although once again, nothing has been confirmed.
