Rumor: Apple Updating Airport Express Soon

A new rumor is suggesting that stock levels of Apple’s Airport Express base station are running low in third party sellers in advance of the company releasing an updated model. According to AppleInsider, Apple is preparing to release a new Airport Express, resulting in stock shortages at sites like Amazon with 2-5 week availability, and others like MacMall reporting that they are completely out of stock.

For what it’s worth, the Apple Store still shows the AirPort Express as in stock and shipping within 24 hours.  It doesn’t seem unrealistic for Apple to be preparing an update to the Airport Express however, as the company updated the Airport Extreme in June, adding technology that would increase the wireless power to up to 2.8 fold greater than the previous generation.

There is no sign of new Airport Express base stations on the Apple Store but, given how quietly the Airport Extreme was updated, it may just be a quiet update.
