According to a new rumor which comes from analyst Ming Chi Kuo (via AppleInsider), Apple will apparently be looking to ship the Gold Master (GM) version of iOS 5 to their iPhone 5 manufacturing partners during the last week in September. The Gold Master version is the final version that will be the release candidate supplied with all new iPhone devices, and will apparently be deployed from the week of 23rd September onwards. It is also likely that the company will ship it to iPad and iPod touch manufacturing partners so that all new devices (not just updated ones) will be shipped with the new OS.
In addition, in a research note provided to MacRumors, Kuo states that the next generation iPhone will only feature small differences from the iPhone 4, with a similar design, identical screen size and a spec bump. This of course runs contrary to many recent rumors which have indicated that the new device would have a larger screen and a revamped design.
Kuo has a mixed record in the past but was notably accurate on some details of the iPad 2 prior to launch. While Apple is set to release iOS 5 this Fall, no specific dates have been issued by the company on when it will be made public and a manufacturer seeding of the GM build of iOS 5 at the end of this month certainly doesn’t seem out the realms of possibility.
