We’ve received an interesting tip that Best Buy Mexico is giving away a free Apple TV with every purchase of a new iMac or MacBook Pro. It’s a little unusual because retailers tend to give away third party items or Apple accessories rather than giving away extra Apple products with the purchase of a laptop or desktop device. To get an Apple TV free is a pretty good deal and it kinda makes you wonder why they are doing it.
Are they trying to dump extra stock of an Apple TV in advance of a refresh or just trying to entice consumers to buy a Mac? Who knows. Not to suggest anything untoward, but September will represent the one year anniversary of the launch of the current generation Apple TV. A new Apple TV with an A5 processor capable of streaming true 1080p media would follow on nicely from recent reports that have noted that Apple has enabled true 1080p streaming in iOS 5
Put this in context with the recent activity at ApplePico.com as well as the patents that suggest the company could be looking at implementing pico projectors in iOS devices (remember, the Apple TV runs a specific build of iOS), and you have some enticing possibilities of a pico projector appearing in the Apple TV 3 as well.
