Rumor: Facebook Launching iPad App Next Week

Facebook, the site that has historically shied away from issuing an app specifically designed for the iPad, may be launching an app for the device as early as next week (Reuters).  According to CEO and founder, Mark Zuckerberg, the company will “launch something awesome” next week and that it may be related to the reputed iPad app which the company is thought to have been working on.

Last week, reports suggested that Facebook was working on an iPad app and that it could be coming soon.  It’s rather a surprise, therefore, that the site could be launching the app as soon as next week.  Initial reports had suggested that the company had been working on the app for more than a year.  The app will reportedly be designed with optimized features purely for the iPad and will offer a revamped interface.

Since the launch of the iPad, other apps designed for browsing Facebook on the device have been extremely popular with users.  One app, Friendly for Facebook, available in free and paid forms, has even improved upon the browsing experience so it will be interesting to see if Facebook takes a leaf out of Friendly for Facebook’s….well, book.

It’s an interesting paradox that Facebook is working on an app which will try to compete with other apps designed for browsing their own product.

Friendly…
