We have been tipped that stocks of the Mac mini in European Amazon stores are running a little short, with many Amazon sites suggesting that only one or two units are available for the Mac mini server and home editions. It has also been noticed by 9to5Mac that Amazon and Best Buy stocks of the MacBook Air are running low as well, prompting speculation that the two models will soon be updated by Apple.
Shortages of Apple products at various Amazon sites are fairly common as products reach the end of their cycle and Apple prepares to deploy refreshed versions. While online Apple Stores are still reporting adequate stocks of the MacBook Air and the Mac mini, the fact that third part sellers are starting to run low of the mini and Air is worth taking notice of, especially as we approach the release date for the latest Mac operating system OS X 10.7 Lion. Previous rumors have suggested that Apple will be releasing a new Mac mini along with a 2011 Mac Pro by the end of August.
Lion is expected to be released at some point in July and recent rumors have suggested that Apple will be holding off on releasing any new Macs until the OS is ready to ship. This is likely because the company wants all new Macs released over the summer to ship with OS X 10.7 pre-installed rather than the customer having to immediately upgrade. Best to get your wallet prepared for July.
