A new image of what is purported to be the next generation iPhone, called either the iPhone 5 or the iPhone 4S depending on your inclination, has shown up on the M.I.C Gadget website (via 9to5Mac). The picture appears to show an as-yet-unreleased model of white iPhone that has a larger screen both horizontally and vertically.
The photo is similar to some leaked technical drawings which also appeared on the MIC Gadget website showing a next generation iPhone with a larger screen. At this point it is unclear what the photos actually show as the website suggests that the image shown above could reflect a mock-up. We’re not sure if they mean a mock-up generated by Apple or a non-functioning mock created by a third party, since it appears that MIC Gadget has only received these grainy pictures.
Rumors of a next generation iPhone with a larger screen have been circulating for a while and it certainly seems to be the best way for Apple to maintain strong sales in the rumored absence of 4G or new features like NFC. A larger screen together with faster processor and perhaps more storage would mark the next generation device as more than just an incremental update to the iPhone 4 and would assure high demand. These upgrades, together with other peripheral capabilities like the potential to run on the T-Mobile USA network as well as global compatiblity could also promote massive sales.
