Rumor: MobileMe And iOS 5 Event In April?

A new rumor from German language site Macerkopf.de claims that Apple will be holding a media event between April 4th to 17th of this year to give media their first look at the new iOS 5 operating system for Apple mobile devices as well as the new and long awaited revamp of MobileMe.  The event would apparently take place in Cupertino at the Apple campus (via MacRumors).

While the reliability of the source that Macerkopf.de is using for this information has not been indicated, it is not such a far flung claim given that Apple is expected to introduce iOS 5 at the WWDC which we reported would likely take place in early June with the launch of the iPhone 5.

If this is indeed the case then it may mean that a new version of MobileMe would not be seen until either the April event, if it is launched at that time, or even June or July if Apple decides to launch it alongside iOS 5 and the iPhone 5.  Earlier in the month it was also reported that Apple was starting to remove boxed versions of MobileMe from retail stores although a quick check a couple of hours ago revealed that this did not seem to be the case.

However, Apple is now directing customers towards a mandatory free 60 day trial of MobileMe and has done since February 24th.  The 60 day free trial would take us past the April 17th date (the German site reports the event will take place between the 14th and 15th week of the year) so we may see a launch of the new MobileMe product at that time.
