Debunked Rumor: Mac App Store To Be Incorporated Into iTunes

In rather odd rumor news, it is being reported by the Italian blog SlideToMac (via Neowin.net) that the Mac App Store could be tacked on to iTunes in the future, removing the need to launch the Mac App Store as a separate application.  While the evidence for this rumor is tenuous at best, it is still worth noting that devolving the Mac App Store to be a part of iTunes is not the best idea.

The site states that the evidence which supports this rumor is a screenshot of iTunes with the Mac App Store logo in the center and the words ‘Coming Soon’ below it.

However, and here is where the intake of breath comes, neither site has apparently noticed that this is also the logo for the iOS App Store which has been a part of iTunes since the beginning. It is therefore a rather large leap to make the assumption that this screenshot, which skeptics would probably suggest was Photoshopped, could represent the integration of the Mac App Store with iTunes.

We have suggested previously that iTunes itself needs a bit of an overhaul, perhaps siphoning off some features into sandboxed programs rather than the current practice of tacking on extra features with each new release.  However, it’s incredibly unlikely that the solution to this would lie in incorporating the Mac App Store within iTunes.

Nope, So…

Completely agree! If anything they’ll be taking features out of itunes…I think it’s time it returned to just being about media. Maybe a separate application for your specific device, or maybe integrate device syncing into the app store.
