Rumor: iWork ’09 Stock Low, iWork ’11 On The Way?

Stocks of iWork ’09 are reportedly running low in a number of online retailers which could suggest that Apple is winding down production in preparation for the release of iWork ’11. The US site of Amazon.com shows that both the single user and family packs of iWork ’09 are almost out of stock and this is also reflected in a number of international Amazon stores such as the UK and French sites. In addition, Apple reseller MacConnection is reportedly out of stock of the iWork ’09 Family Pack.

Stock availability in third party retailers and offical Apple resellers is prone to deviate dramatically more than Apple’s own stock availability tends to suggest, so it is worth taking this rumor with a pinch of salt.  Indeed the Apple Online Store still shows 24 hour availability for iWork ’09 so this may simply be normal stock fluctuation.  However, the lack of stock in what seems to be a high number of Amazon stores together with a major Apple reseller running low is worth the attention.

iWork ’11 is the long awaited refresh of Apple’s flagship office suite and has been hotly anticipated for some time given that the last edition was released in January 2009.  Many had expected the individual components of iWork ’11 to be made available along with the Mac App Store as promotional screenshots had indicated that this could be the case, but this did not emerge.

This is the latest in a long line of iWork rumors to make the stage but no concrete evidence as yet.

Thanks for the tip Eric!

Well they could’ve been wanting to put it out with the app store and then thought, “this version sucks”. So they are busy making a new version thats not going to suck instead. Although i doubt its going to be groundbreaking, Apple isn’t doing groundbreaking/innovative at the moment.

The low stock could also be an indication iWork will come from the App Store exclusively in the near future.
